Crazy Lace Agate - Advance Pics!

Crazy Lace Agate - Advance Pics!

Here are some pictures of a little crazy lace agate I've been keen to get started on.  Originally, this was to be a ring but now I'm thinking it would make a lovely pendant or brooch or a ring!   I still have a bit more work to do with the torch and then back in the pickle before filing and sanding by hand.  I have also decided to try out my new tumbler!  This should harden the metal after all the torch time :)
I would love to hear your thoughts about my latest work.  Let me know what I should do next - ring, brooch, pendant?
This piece is also for sale, so if you would like a custom order, please do contact me at: tara@treasuretrunkdesigns.com
Thank You!

Here are my little crazy lace agates - I am not sure what I will make with the other two - maybe earrings? We'll see!

Sneak Peak!

* Sneak Peak! *
(Advance look at new TTD cabs!)

Okay, I can't resist showing you a sneak peak at my new cabochons!  I search wide and far to find interesting, unique and beautiful cabs to work with.  It has been interesting learning about the different stones and gems - where they come from, their characteristics, the lapidary artists who cut and shape them. One day I would love to learn how to unearth and cut my own cabochons but... one step-at-a-time!

Watch out for upcoming posts featuring lapidary artists, reviews & more!

Bishop Ranch Plume Agate Cabochon from Texas

This is some very old material from the Bishop Ranch in Texas. Closed to collecting in the 60's, Geoff from Geoffrey's Cabochons found a stash of this fine plume agate.  Wonderful translucence and amazing plumes.  This rock was collected more than 50 years ago. It has a nice mix of white fortification agate and black plumes.

Size: 12x23x5mm

Galah Porcelain Agate cabochon from Australia

This is very special agate from Agate creek in North Queensland Australia. Also known as porcelain agate, the pink color combined with the banded patterns are just beautiful. A sub variety of Queensland agate, the pink and white is known as Galah Porcelain agate. Collected 15 years ago by a well known opal and agate seller from Queensland Australia.  This cab was purchased from Geoff of Geoffrey's Cabochons.

Size: 9x21x5mm

Agatized Coral

This lovely oval fossil coral has an excellent pattern and cut.  I adore the sea, corals and fossils.  The patterns suck me right in!

Size: 34 x 23 x 4 mm

Agatized Coral Cabochon

I adore the sea, corals and fossils.  The patterns suck me right in to this salmon coloured dreamy cab!
Size: 39 x 30 x 8 mm

Drusy Cabochon Pair

This sparking matched pair of white drusy ovals has an opalescent pearl-like coating. I can't decide whether or not to use this pair for earrings or maybe as the focal piece of two rings.  What do you think?

Size: 18 x 14 x 6 mm

Natural Drusy Pair

More drusies!!!  This pair of sparkly white natural drusy round are polished on both the sides and the back.  I definitely want to make rings out of these!
Size: 20 x 4 mm

Pastel Agate Cabochon

Bulls'eye! This pretty little pastel cab has gray and green bands on a creamy white background. Soft, sweet and unique.  So pretty!

27 x 20 x 8 mm

Ruby In Zoisite Cabochon

Look at the ruby heart in the middle!  Isn't it fab?
A striking high dome cut stone with very nice red ruby in a green and black zoisite matrix.

Size: 42 x 34 x 10 mm

Sardonyx Agate Pair

Zoom, zoom! This pair of sardonyx stones screams "GO!"  They are so fun and striking.
Size: 25 x 18 mm

Don't play with matches...

Don't play with matches...

So after a long day of mucking up, cussing and melting silver, I have decided that playing with a torch when you are tired and cranky is a very VERY bad idea... Now why doesn't home depot sell fire retardent aprons???

That's it for today.  Maybe a cup of tea would be a good idea...

Another custom ring on the way - SUGILITE!

Another custom ring on the way -
SUGILITE!

Well, after much hunting I was finally able to find the perfect cab for my next custom made ring.  The price fits the budget and the lucky lady is very happy.  Phew!  That was tough!

Of course, this was not a cab that I had in stock. So I've had to order it off the internet (there are not to many places around home to buy from!)  Usually I try to buy local but this time my cabs are coming from Florida.  I hope they are as pretty in person as they are in the pictures!

My client is having a ring made with the top left cab.  They are purple Sugilite cabochons.  The top row is a size 14mm length  x 10mm width while the bottom row is slightly smaller at 12mm length x 10mm width.  You can get an idea of the size by looking at the pictures below.

Sugilite is known as a "love" stone that helps to encourage positive thinking and let go of negative energy.  Perhaps I should make one for myself - couldn't we all use a bit more love and positive energy in our lives?

These sugilite cabs come from South Africa originally and I can't wait to see them in person!  They are the perfect size for rings OR earrings.  If you would like your own sugilite ring, please contact me and I can make one just for you!

Update! 3rd stone from the left (top AND bottom) reserved!
Let me know if you woul like to reserve one of the other 4 cabs -
I think they would make great earrings!

My 1st custom order ring!

* My 1st custom order ring! *

This weekend was event packed, amidst my 1st Etsy sales, flooding of my work station and zero sleep, I got my first request for a custom made ring.

This is not one of my new cabs but rather from a few sheets that I bought last summer when my cousins were coming up from the States for a family reunion.  I've been looking forward to using them but I wanted to wait until just the right time.

Through the TTD facebook page we figured out how she wanted it set, the angle and where to put the ring band.  Heather was an awesome client and it was a lot of fun.

From the TTD facebook page, I also got two inquiries about making a ring with my new charoite cabochon.  It's a beautiful cab and at 20 cm is just the perfect size.

Charoite is a relatively rare stone.  It can only be found in 1 place in the whole world!  Charoite is found along the Chary River in the Sakha Republic, Siberia, Russia.

Charoite is a healing stone. It is known to negate anger, rage, impatience, fear and confusion. Charoite boosts your powers and ability to increase psychic and spiritual awareness while bringing peace, calmn and balance into your life.  Apparently, it's also very good for people who are a wee bit OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder)...  Maybe I should make a ring for myself with it! lol...

This is the pretty puple charoite - don't you think it kind of looks like something from outer space?

What do you think of Miss Heather's ring?

Barbados' Sea Glass Rings!

* Barbados' Sea Glass Rings! *

After stocking up on supplies during my shopping spree at Metalliferous in the fabulous New York City, I finally got around to my sea glass from Barbados.

(check out my blog "New York City - A Road Trip!" @ http://treasuretrunkdesigns.blogspot.com/2011/02/new-york-city-road-trip.html )

This project was a lot of fun but it was also soooo frustrating!  My first attempts at creating bezels and rings, and I choose awkward, irregular shapes and heights... What was I thinking?!?

Dave, from Metalliferous, tried to persuade me to take a step back.  He said, and I quote, "Don't you understand?  It's like you're going into the Amazon!" Ha!  This guy was awesome, helpful and hilarious!

Anyway, so here are my first attempts at making rings.  I hope you like them!

Below you will find some pieces that I've picked out for future rings.
