Woo Hoo!!!! TTD's very 1st 100% organic Etsy sale! Jump Around!!!

Woo Hoo!!!!  Jump Around!!!
TTD's very 1st 100% organic Etsy sale!

Oh my freaking GOD I just made my very first Etsy sale to a complete stranger that was NOT referred by Facebook - my VERY FIRST organic Etsy sale - I am in S-H-O-C-K! Good shock... Oh my!  I can't believe it.  Is it a mistake?  Did someone hack into my paypall account via Etsy?  Look again, nope, "Payment Received".  Woo hoo!!!  4 months of hard work, painstakingly agonizing over photos, descriptions, stressing over why it seemed only other jewellery artists ever peeked at my online Etsy shop, slowing down my new items as the weeks went down with zero sales but those referred via Facebook or word of mouth.  And today... it finally happened.   Hallelujah!  I'm so happy! :)

The purchased item by a lady in Finland...  TTD's turquoise drop earrings:

In honour of my very 1st Etsy sale - not family, not word of mouth, not referred from blog or facebook - 100% organic Etsy sale... a little music to groove to!

A little "House of Pain" Jump Around!!!!  Woo hoo!

~ Honesty 4 Etsy! ~

Rating buyers is WRONG!
~ a call out to all Etsy sellers ~

How can our customers feel safe buying on Etsy or from us when we have the ability to rate them as a buyer? Moreover, what if that buyer also has a shop where they try to sell their handmade goods?

I have 'virtually' met some fabulous people via Etsy, but I'm also come across some nasty, vindictive, competitive people as well. I would like to see an end to buyer feedback. As far as I'm concerned, a "good" buyer is one that pays. If they don't pay, then they are not really a customer now are they? A buyer has only ONE obligation to the seller. That is to pay the amount due. They do not have to be pleasant, they do not have to be chatty, fun or sweet. They don't have to be pretty or popular or easy going. A buyer does not have to like you or even be happy with their purchase. They don't have to post positive reviews when truly they were disappointed with the product or customer service. Buyers have only ONE job - that is to pay the seller. This is a buyers ONLY obligation. If they are sweet, nice, easy going and fun - that's just gravy.

There are too many sellers on Etsy that use the buyer feedback to post retaliatory feedback and negative commentary in hopes of damaging the buyers reputation or bullying them into a positive review. This is not right.

As I mentioned, I am a buyer AND a seller on Etsy and I had this happen to me. I was devastated that Etsy would not help me get rid of the retaliatory feedback on my buyer profile. Etsy did nothing to help fix my problem or put an end to the blackmail and retaliatory feedback that is happening on this site.

Sadly, only a few sellers post feedback immediately after payment. Only a very few... I would like to see this change. So long as buyer feedback is an option, I would like ALL sellers to post POSITIVE feedback on a client immediately upon receiving payment.

Help our buyers feel safe on Etsy.

Don't worry about what happens next. If you care about your clients and you are providing quality products with quality customer service - that will show in your reviews. If a buyer comes along and rates you in a way you don't like - see if you can help make them happy. If there is no way to resolve the situation, then suck it up and try to learn from the experience. Because, at the end of the day, a business is nothing without customers!

Our world - as sellers - revolves around our customers. NOT the other way around. If they are annoying, demanding, whatever - suck it up! Unless you are independently wealthy, you don't get to choose your clients - THEY CHOOSE YOU!

It's wonderful to have a fun, happy, positive client who makes you feel like you're work is the greatest thing since sliced bread. That's a terrific feeling. However, that doesn't mean that the demanding client is any less of a "good" buyer. They are just different. And take all that gravy on the wrong day - your wonderful client can become your biggest headache!

My point is this - rating buyers is wrong. We will ALL - at some point or another - come accross someone who is not 100% satisfied with either our product, the shipping time or our service. This is life. No one is perfect and we all have a bad day from time-to-time. But don't worry about that. If you do your best, make the customer your focus and be honest with them AND yourself - the positive reviews will outweigh the negative and your customers will understand.

I beg of you all - stop the retaliatory feedback and bring Honesty to Etsy!

Post POSITIVE feedback immediately upon payment.

Thank you.

If a Price is Too Good To True...

If a Price is Too Good To True...

Have you ever heard the phrase "If a price is too good to be true, it probably is"?  Well, let's just say, I got a recent dose of reality over the past 24 hours.  Indeed, this has been a nightmare in every sense of the online way it can possibly be.

I bought some pearls you see and I was SO very excited to get them.  Unfortunately, the nacre was a total mess and the colour completely off from what I had expected.  Now I know from my own attempts at photographing my work that colour is a tricky thing!  That's why I end up posting sooo many pictures of my work on facebook and etsy.  I want my clients to know what they are getting.  I bend over backwards because jewelry is my pleasure, my hobby that turned into a hobby business and it is what I do when I need to relax or escape from all of lifes little annoyances.  My jewelry is about being positive.  It's about making ME happy and the pleasure I get when I know that the person buying or wearing my work feels good.

I hunt for the best quality supplies to work with and when a shop is good to me I will praise them to the world and keep coming back.  Even if the product is not great I will at least respect, appreciate and praise good customer service.

That's what happens when you grow up in a family business dead center of a village where - if you lose one client - you risk losing everything.  Even when a client drives you crazy or is being unreasonable.... you apologize, you offer to fix the problem and you be nice to them.  Because that's your job.  If you have to do any customer service, it's your job to make those customers happy.  You don't rate your buyers.  A good buyer is one who pays you.  End of story.

But somehow, in the online Etsy world, reality has gone askew!  Since when do you 'rate' buyers?  And since when does a seller suddenly gain the ability to blackmail a buyer???  If I post 'neutral' then the seller can come along and post all sorts of nasty comments and add a negative to my buyer feedback.  And the result is... people who come to my shop who won't know the whole story or just how crazy this pearl seller is!  So what to do when in an online world your entire presence is based on positive reviews?  What do you do when you have worked so hard to find quality supplies, to build a facebook page, a blog, learn all these new skills, try like the dickens to take nice accurate pictures, create an Etsy account and join a million circles, forums to network and create positive connections.  Making treasuries, sharing the love, letting people know when they have created something you think is just awesome because heck - isn't that always nice to hear when it's the truth?

What's the point when a seller can come along and destroy your online presence with the simple click of a button.  It's online bullying - plain and simple.  If I don't change my review to positive - then this pearl seller will blast me and my shop (even though she's never bought from me before!)  Well, I could cave but I won't.  Nope.  I'm not going to do it.

This seller is blackmailing me and that's not right.  Hopefully, my clients will see that one black spot and know that it's in the buyer section - NOT the seller section of Etsy.  I also hope that they listen to my clients rather than this pearl seller.

Some of you might think I'm biting my nose off to spite my face.  That I should just suck it up, apologize to this nasty pearl seller, lie and say the pearls were great.  But at the end of the day, there is only one person in this world that anyone needs to live with.  That person is yourself.  And if you can't honour yourself - then what's the point of anything at all?

So screw it.  I'll open a new buyer account so that these kind of vindictive people can not touch my shop anymore and I'll hope that people focus on my clients and on my work.  I will also try to remember why I started making jewellery and selling it in the first place!  That reason was happiness, beauty and the joy of creating something beautiful.

I'm gonna keep doing my thing.  I'm not going to change who I am or what I believe.  I care about my customers, I care about my work and I do my very best... always.   That's enough for me.

As for the vindictive nasty pearl seller - well she can shove it up her you-know-what.

My 1st custom order ring!

* My 1st custom order ring! *

This weekend was event packed, amidst my 1st Etsy sales, flooding of my work station and zero sleep, I got my first request for a custom made ring.

This is not one of my new cabs but rather from a few sheets that I bought last summer when my cousins were coming up from the States for a family reunion.  I've been looking forward to using them but I wanted to wait until just the right time.

Through the TTD facebook page we figured out how she wanted it set, the angle and where to put the ring band.  Heather was an awesome client and it was a lot of fun.

From the TTD facebook page, I also got two inquiries about making a ring with my new charoite cabochon.  It's a beautiful cab and at 20 cm is just the perfect size.

Charoite is a relatively rare stone.  It can only be found in 1 place in the whole world!  Charoite is found along the Chary River in the Sakha Republic, Siberia, Russia.

Charoite is a healing stone. It is known to negate anger, rage, impatience, fear and confusion. Charoite boosts your powers and ability to increase psychic and spiritual awareness while bringing peace, calmn and balance into your life.  Apparently, it's also very good for people who are a wee bit OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder)...  Maybe I should make a ring for myself with it! lol...

This is the pretty puple charoite - don't you think it kind of looks like something from outer space?

What do you think of Miss Heather's ring?

Would you like a personalized custom ring? Check out my facebook page to see the cabochons I have in stock or email me and I can try to source a cabochon just for you!

My 1st Etsy Sale! Yeah!

My 1st Etsy Sale! Yeah!

Well, it finally happened.  Woo hoo!  I had my first Etsy sale - yeah!  Actually, I woke up to TWO Etsy sales this morning.  Amidst the grogginess of having stayed up WAY too late (working on the details for a turquoise ring with one of my favourite clients), I stumbled down the stairs and put on the coffee while the computer started up.  Then, woo hoo!  Good news from PayPal - I need to upgrade my account to "Business"!  I didn't know that... Then, you have a sale transaction.  A sale?  Yeah! I was sooooo very excited!  Still groggy, but SO excited!

So, who was my 1st client?  My lovely second cousin Juanita.  Thanks Juanita!  I'm all the more happy because my first sale is to part of my family - so I'll never forget it.  :)

My 2nd sale was kind of a cheat.  The order was already placed last week but my client had not picked it up yet, and she agreed to make an online sale (at the same price) to help me build my online reputation.  Such a sweetie!

So now, I have 2 online sales and I'm hoping that helps to build my Etsy status.  When you have an online store, your reputation is of MASSIVE importance.  Therefore, I've been trying to focus my TTD efforts on building up my Facebook and improving my photographs.  I like the online business.  I get to work from home and - through the internet aspect - I can combine the skills I've gained in social media, writing and marketing.  Each step is a learning curve and it's all very exciting.

Other news, I've been asked to make another spoon keychain.  It seems the footballs are popular!  I have to admit, they are kinda cute.  Even though I'm a hockey fan myself!  This keychain also has my first somewhat 'naughty' stamp.  It's just a nickname, but at first glance I blushed amidst the giggling!  I won't share what it says just in case the lucky man happens to come across my blog.  But I will say, it's very cute.

Okay, back to my work!  Thank you emails, registering for a business account, and destroying my nuckles while I file down a spoon into the shape of a football.  I need a nap...
